We were out of the house early and the car was on the Shannon Ferry to Tarbet. It was a Sunday so the towns of Listowel and Tralee were deserted. I was disappointed not to see some life about, the sun was shining but there was no one out enjoying the day.
We drove around the Ring of Kerry and stopped and started at all the sights it had to offer. The road snaked along clifftops and cut through mountains, the scenery was spectacular. Ballycarbery Castle was so much fun, we all climbed up inside the crumbling walls, I struggled with vertigo while AJ ran around with his imagination running wild, what a time we had. If you look closely at this photo, you will see AJ perched high on the castle wall.

We all agreed our favourite part was from the village of Sneem where we had a lovely early dinner. I had seafood chowder with brown soda, chef arrived tableside to receive our congratulations. At last simple, fresh food where the star ingredients were allowed to shine without being overshadowed by the all too familiar powdered bouillons and other things used to cut corners. We left the pretty Sneem with contented tummies. We took the advice of the lady in the tourist office and took to inland road. We were gald we did and were rewarded with mountain, lake and river views as we drove a twisty, turny road to a lower altitude. AJ loved it and it was the highlight of his day. The most picturesque part of The Ring of Kerry was the National Park near Killarney. We wished we had drove the ring in the opposite direction as we had run out of time to explore this area further as we had to drive the hour and a half back to Tarbet for the last ferry at 9.30 pm. We made it.
